After a couple of months of wild theories and high expectations, it has finally been confirmed that Lady Gaga will appear in the Joker sequel alongside Joaquin Phoenix and even a release date was unveiled.
This exciting news was revealed via social media by the American singer to her more than 53 million fans and followers with a very brief video where her name alongside Joaquin Phoenix is shown. Also, by the look of it, it appears that the rumors of the second film being a musical are true.
The Joker sequel, which will be titled Joker: Folie à deux will serve as the sequel of the 2019's film Joker where Joaquin Phoenix portrayed the protagonist. This second film is scheduled to be released on Oct. 4, 2024.
Not many details have been revealed about Lady Gaga and the role that she will be portraying but if the theories are true, Mother Monster would be portraying Harley Quinnzell, his psychiatrist but later best known as Harley Quinn, the love interest of the joker.
If this happens to be true, Lady Gaga would be the third one to portray Harley Quinn. Previously we watched Margot Robbie portraying the role in Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey, plus, Kaley Cuoco voiced her in HBO'S series Harley Quinn.
As for the title, Joker: Folie à deux it is referencing a medical term for an identical or similar mental condition that affects two or more individuals, usually members of the same family.
This film will also see Lady Gaga's return to the screen after the highly acclaimed 'House of Gucci' and 'A Star is born'. As trivia facts, Todd Phillips, director of the Joker served as producer in a Star is Born, while Bradley Cooper who was cast alongside her in the movie, is a producer in Joker.
The first Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix was highly acclaimed becoming the No. 4 highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. It then earned 11 Oscar nominations, including best picture, and won best actor (for Phoenix) and best score (for Hildur Gudnadottir).
In previous interviews, Lady Gaga revealed that she always wanted to be an actress and not a singer. “I always wanted to be an actor. Much more than I wanted to be a singer,” she explained to Billboard. Despite doing all the legwork from a young age, a problem persisted. “I just always wanted to be an actress, but I was really terrible at auditioning.”
