Surely at this point, you have heard, if not watched, the super expected Friends Special Reunion. Also, you may already know that super famous Hollywood celebs like Lady Gaga, BTS, Justin Bieber, James Corden, and many more joined Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, Matt Le Blanc, Courteney Cox, and David Schwimmer. However, when the list of guest stars was unveiled fans did not wait long and started complaining:: Where are Paul Rudd and Cole Sprouse?
In case you do not remember (we seriously doubt it) Paul Rudd played as Phoebe's husband Mike Hannigan and Cole Sprouse, made appearances as Ross's son Ben and although Rudd didn't appear on "Friends: The Reunion," fans got a glimpse of him in old footage shown from the taping of the show's series finale. "I was in the last episode, which made no sense to me whatsoever," the actor said during an appearance on "The Graham Norton Show" in 2019.
The director of the HBO special, Ben Winston, revealed in a recent interview for The Wrap that it was all due to logistics "Well, we couldn't have everybody on, because it's only an hour and 45 minutes. And you've got to pay attention — the main nub of the show has got to be about the six cast members," Winston said. "So you can't have too many cameos because of course, there were hundreds of amazing people who were in 'Friends' over the years. Sadly, we couldn't get everybody in."
Ben Winston also revealed that many more celebrities were invited, but most of them could not make it "It's a complicated time to be making television now because, you know, some people couldn't fly internationally, some people were on other TV or film shoots, some people are in bubbles on stuff."
Winston also added that the COVID-19 pandemic and the strict lockdowns did not help to achieve what they initially intended to do, but they did what they did with what they have because everything came to be about how flexible they could be. He also revealed that he hoped people will think about all the great things that are in there rather than the things that aren't. "The timing of it was incredibly difficult. So, you know, if you weren't available on the seventh of April at 8 p.m., then, sadly, they weren't able to be part of it.”
"Friends: The Reunion" was hosted by James Corden and centered on the reunion of the six main cast members: Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe Buffay), Jennifer Aniston (Rachel Green), David Schwimmer (Ross Geller), Courteney Cox (Monica Geller), Matthew Perry (Chandler Bing), and Matt LeBlanc (Joey Tribbiani). Friends fans were also able to catch up with special guests Maggie Wheeler (Janice), James Michael Tyler (Gunther), Elliott Gould and Christina Pickles (Jack and Judy Geller), Larry Hankin (Mr. Heckles), Thomas Lennon (Joey's hand-twin), Tom Selleck (Richard Burke) and Reese Witherspoon (Jill Green).
