The Academy Awards ceremony is here! And with it, it has been revealed that a pre-show will be aired before the actual gala. This is the first time an event like this happens (Thank you very much Coroanavirus) Jesse Collins, Stacey Sher and Steven Soderbergh are the producers and revealed that in the special pre-show special 'Oscars: Into the Spotlight' the nominated for Best Original song will be performed.
Celeste, H.E.R., Leslie Odom, Jr., Laura Pausini, Daniel Pemberton, Molly Sandén, and Diane Warren are the ones performing. Celeste and Pemberton are nominated for “Hear My Voice” from The Trial of the Chicago 7, Pausini and Warren are nominated for "Io sì (Seen)" from The Life Ahead and Sandén will perform “Husavik” from Eurovision Song Content: The Story of Fire Saga. H.E.R. will perform “Fight for You” from Judas and the Black Messiah, and Leslie Odom Jr, who is also nominated for Best Supporting actor, will sing “Speak Now” from One Night in Miami. Four of the five performances were pre-recorded on the Dolby Family Terrace of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures while the fifth, Husavik, was filmed in Iceland. 'Into the Spotlight' will be 90-minutes-long and will be hosted by Ariana DeBose and Lil Rel Howery
"We’ve come up with some serious pre-game and post-game action to enhance our main event,” said Collins, Sher, and Soderbergh. "Our suggestion is just tune in for the whole shebang, otherwise you’ll miss something really unexpected and fun." With a “post-game” they referred to a post-show because the celebration does not stop there. A live after-party titled Oscars: After Dark. It will be hosted by Colman Domingo and Andrew Rannells and is expected to include interviews from the winners.
This year, differently from all the Award ceremonies, the Oscars banned celebrities to use Zoom, about this, Director Glenn Weiss gave the reasons behind it. "I think to a certain degree we all have gotten a little bit of Zoom fatigue," Weiss shared. "As a result of that, we really wanted to bring a celebration without distraction. We wanted to bring something where people at home are a part of it and are experiencing this room in a same way."
