Long time no see! Lorde just released a new single after four years of absence and like in good fashion, the new hit accompanied by a music video is what we were asking for. Alongside the new release of 'Solar Power', surprises do not cease and the New Zealand singer announced her upcoming album.
Three albums over nine years is a little bit suspicious but as they said, you should not pressure an artist! Actually, it's been four long years since the release of Lorde's 2017 album Melodrama, and although we all have been through a lot (different presidents, COVID-19, etc) the singer is returning with a bright and vivid rhythm with 'Solar Power.' Fans were buzzing around and having suspicions and all came unveiled when Lorde announced on her social media what was coming up. Lorde revealed that she was “waiting for the right moment” to release her comeback single, and opted for 11 June to coincide with the year’s only solar eclipse. Talk about synchronization!
In the video, we can see her wearing an amazing yellow dress surrounded by some bohemian friends while walking, running, jumping, and having fun at the beach and while watching it, surely you will wish to be around there too. And fresh as the day, Lorde revealed to Zane Lowe her inspiration behind this hippy song. “I was on Martha’s Vineyard with my good friend, Cazzie, staying at her house. We had just been for a big swim, all day,” Lorde recalled of the day she began the song. “My hair was wet, and when I came back into my room, I had my a little Yamaha DX keyboard, and I just started singing… and kind of figuring this thing out.” She continued:
Lorde also compared the new material with one of the most famous Robbie Williams's songs 'Rock DJ' “I don't know what's going on here, but I love it. And, then I just put it away and like had a paddleboard, I think, but it really was such a natural, like a joyful extension of an awesome day. And then I think I took it back into, into the city, to Jack [Antonoff]’s, and, you know, we had all the windows open. It was summer. And we just followed it through.
In a newsletter sent to the fans, the singer said that the upcoming album has not a release date yet, but what fans can expect from it is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalizing the deep, transcendent feelings she has when she is outdoors, “I want this album to be your summer companion, the one you pump on the drive to the beach. The one that lingers on your skin like a tan as the months get cooler again.”
