Once again, Joaquin Phoenix is proving why we love him so much, not only for his acting career but because he is the full package of what a role model should be. The American actor has been a vegan since he was three years old not because someone made him do it but because of self-learning. Now, that his son is reaching the same age he had when this happened, Joaquin is talking about it.
Joaquin Phoenix shares a baby with her partner, Rooney Mara. The couple is well known for being totally secretive about their private life but what we already know is that their kids is named River, in honor of Phoenix's late brother, River Phoenix, who died in 1993 of an accidental drug overdose at age 23.
This time the 'Joker' actor has led people to know more about his ideas and talks about the two things he loves most in the world, his son River, and his veganism. “Well, certainly I would hope that he is vegan, but I’m not going to impose my belief on my child,” the actor told The Sunday Times of his 9-month-old, “I don’t think that’s right.” The actor then added that whatever happens, he will always support his child.
“I’m not going to tell him that it’s OK to read books about all the wonderful little farm animals, and they say ‘oink oink oink’ and ‘moo moo moo,’ and not tell him that that’s what a hamburger is,” he explained. “So I’m not going to perpetuate the lie, but I’m also not going to force him to be vegan. I’ll support him. That’s my plan.” However, an absolute no-no situation is the topic of fast food, which Phoenix absolutely despises. “I’m not going to indoctrinate him with the idea that McDonald’s have a Happy Meal because there’s nothing f–king happy about that meal,” he said.
Throughout the years, Phoenix has headlined numerous campaigns for different organizations to help promote veganism and end animal slaughter, he was named 'Person of the year' in 2019 by PETA, and is an advocate for animal rights. In fact, not many people know about this but Joaquin has been the one to push for a vegan menu at the Golden Globes in 2020 and 2021. And even when he won the Academy Award for his performance in Joker, he preferred to talk about the environment, since he had the voice and knew that everyone would listen.
"We’ve become very disconnected from the natural world, We feel entitled to artificially inseminate a cow and when she gives birth we steal her baby, even though her cries of anguish are unmistakable." The actor offered solutions to move toward a more equitable world through human innovation and to end his speech, he shared a lyric written by his late brother, River Phoenix: “Run to the rescue with love, and peace will follow.”
