One would think that being part of one of the most famous movie franchises in the history of cinema would help anyone to become famous not only internationally but on a more low-key level. Plot twist: it does not, according to Tom Felton.
Years have passed since the last Harry Potter movie was premiered and while everyone loved the golden trio formed by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, there were the fans who loved the villains more. How do we know? Social media can prove this easily, but Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy, says it did not help him to gain popularity in his real-life school days.
During an interview with The Guardian, Tom Felton admitted that playing Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies did not help him with the girls at school. In fact, the actor admits that he was the opposite of what Lucius Malfoy's son represented and instead of being the popular guy, no one paid attention to him.
“Some people really struggle with the idea that I wasn't this special, popular kid, but I was walking around with dyed hair and played an evil wizard. It wasn't cool. It did me no favors with the girls," Felton said to the outlet.
It is quite interesting of him to say this because recently during the Harry Potter reunion Emma Watson admitted that back in the day she had a crush on him. “I just don’t know how to say it, I just fell in love with him,” Watson said.
Tom Felton played Draco Malfoy in the eight Harry Potter movies. However, he also revealed that before dying his hair blonde, he tried other colors because he also auditioned to play Ron Weasley and even Harry Potter himself.
"I reckon I got the part because I was nonchalant," Felton recalled, "and had no idea what anyone was on about. Wizards in cupboards under the stairs? And with three older brothers, you learn to be confident quickly. I think Chris Columbus, the director, recognized this slight disinterest and arrogance in me, which he thought could work for Malfoy."
While it might appear that Tom Felton despised dying his hair blond, he admitted last year to People that he would do it again if asked to reprise her role, or even to portray Lucius in a remake. "If you're asking me will I dye my hair blonde again to be Draco, abso-bloody-lutely. Either [him or his father, Lucius]. I'll play Draco's kid if you really want!" Felton said at the time "Any chance to be a Malfoy again would be greatly accepted."
