Honestly, the 'Desperado' actress is as beautiful and talented as when she was twenty years ago. Salma Hayek certainly knows her attributes and how talented she is. The Mexican actress is opening her heart and sharing her feelings about age and how proud she is, about her experiences, and about life in general.
'Salmita' as the people from her country call her, will appear on the cover of ELLE Mexico Magazine in July and while there she revealed that being 54 years old is not a big deal and does not entertain the idea of fussing about it at all. When asked if she feels 'traumatized' for people calling her old, like her character Sonia in Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, she replied “No, not at all traumatic. I always talk about my age, I say it without any problem. I am proud of my age. What is true is that there are people who look down on others because of their age. Especially women.” In fact, the actress has declared in the past that when younger, producers focused on her accent and her roots, instead of her age. It looks like Hollywood is a tough place to be.
Salma Hayek also said that while it's ok to have whatever age you have, people around try to label you with an expiration date, no matter if you are 20 or 60. “They put an expiration date for everything. I think it happens to many women, and you don't have to be my age, it can happen to you at thirty... they tell you: "Oh, no, you no longer because of your age", and sometimes you have to stay quiet. I think there are many women who identify with Sonia's fury because there are things that you cannot say to idiots who think that because you are a certain age, you are incapable of doing things or of having beauty or femininity. They want to retire you and no, you still have a lot to offer.
In fact, Salma Hayek also talked about being the first Mexican actress to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming movie 'Eternals' alongside Angelina Jolie. About it, she admits she feels surprised and happy, once again, mentioning that she could not believe it because she is old, later admitting that, well, she thinks the opposite. “I'll never be old, I'm too curious about life. I know fifteen girls who are older than me.”
However, she reflects on being 54 years old and that it's happening to her who Latin Woman nonetheless, clarifying that it could happen to someone else who is Latin and still, she would be happy about it. “I am not saying it just for myself, if it had been another Mexican, I would also have been very happy. This moment has great meaning for Latina women in different aspects of life, not just in entertainment because everything counts. When everyone's work is seen, we level up and allow changes to happen. I am very happy and very surprised that it was my turn, yes.”
