Officially, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan of Sussex will not return to their royal roles, according to an official statement from Buckingham Palace. Despite they will not use their titles of 'Royal Highness', they will continue having the titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex, respectively.

As had been speculated, the couple will not continue their involvement in the numerous charities and patronages carried out in the UK. This after the official statement that both, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, had confirmed to her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, they would not return to work as members of the royal family.

“Following conversations with The Duke, The Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of The Royal Family it is not possible to continue with the responsabilities and duties that come with a life of public service” said the official announcement on behalf of the Queen and Buckingham palace. “While all are saddened by their decision, The Duke and Duchess remain much loved members of the family”

This statement, released on Friday, February 19, 2021, announces that Harry and Meghan, who have resided in California for almost a year, will leave their titles and honorary appointments at the Queen's Commonwealth Trust and the Association of Commonwealth Universities. For his part, the prince will also put aside appointments with Royal Marines and Royal Navy Smalls Ships and Diving.

Despite having renounced their honorary titles, an official representative of the couple told USA Today that both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain committed to their work and service to the United Kingdom and nations around the world, as well as they will also continue to support the organizations they represent regardless of their 'actual official role'

Back on January 8, 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced on Instagram their decision to 'put aside' their titles as 'senior members' of the British royal family, in order to divide their time in the United Kingdom and the United States. . This time has served for both of them to become financially independent from royalty.

Their decision to leave those royal roles belonging to them comes from the desire to be financially independent, as well as to correctly handle relationships with companies such as Netflix and Spotify, who have helped them achieve that independence. On the Queen's behalf, her decision to accept the couple's decision comes from the fact that the royal family must be totally involved in family affairs and not divide their time on other things.
