Most of us can say that we did not see this one coming. Britney Spears’ former best friend, Sean Phillip is now speaking about the American singer and revealed that when the pop star had the infamous breakdown in 2007 that led her to her conservatorship, there was one Hollywood star that approached her in order to help her and that was the one and only Mel Gibson. (We bet you did not expect that)
According to Phillip, the actor appeared at Britney's door and told her that she should turn to a more spiritual form. This happened a short time later after that one time when Britney shaved her head. “I remember Mel Gibson was one of them, telling her that Christianity would save her and to turn back to God,” Phillip told The Sun “It was all quite surreal.”
Britney is currently in the middle of a fierce legal battle to gain back control of her affairs from her father, Jamie Spears. Many celebrities have voiced their support through social media like Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Kim Kardashian, her ex Kevin Federline and many more. However, Mel Gibson is one of those stars that reached for her many years before all of this came out to the light.
In fact, the Braveheart star spoke about it back in 2009 when he was interviewed by Jimmy Kimmel. “Well, she’s a nice kid … She was just going through a rough patch, so I figured … you look around and you see kids that, you know, in the industry and poor Heath,” Mel said. “I just felt like this poor kid, she’s lining up to be stoned. The press was going at her and everything. I just thought, ‘I wonder if anyone is actually reaching out to her,’ so I just called her and she’s doing great now.” And even, back in 2011 both were spotted vacationing together, so it's safe to say that Mel was really a good friend to her.
Going back to Sean Phillip, he also revealed that what the New Yorker said about Britney being put on drugs so she could handle all the pressure of giving shows, was real. According to Phillip, when she fainted, “management tried to give her a suspected amphetamine to get her conscious and functioning again.”
“The reality is that she was exhausted,” Philips told the Sun. “She was being worked to the bone, and was in no fit state to still be performing… The medication she was on was not helping her at all. She was becoming paranoid like I’d never, ever seen her before. (When she) fainted in the club at the party she was hosting… I had to get her out, carrying her over my shoulder with a black suit jacket thrown over her, and stopping people trying to take pictures on their phones.”
By the time Phillip got Spears back to her room, she was “crying hysterically, and so upset. She was saying, ‘Why am I so accessible? Why am I still doing club gigs?’” he said, adding “That night, management came up and were trying to give her something, in pill form, and I said, ‘No, it’s not happening’. She was just overwhelmed. I begged for them to let her rest.”
