Michelle Williams has a daughter with the late actor Heath Ledger, Matilda Ledger, and since then she has made the impossible to protect her child. Heath Ledger was 28th when according to the autopsy, died of drug intoxication in 2008. His films 'The Dark Knight' and 'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus' were his last legacy. 'The Dark Knight' earned the actor a posthumous Oscar, and with 'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus' a noble act was done. Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, and Jude Law donated all of their earnings from the film to Ledger’s young daughter, Matilda.
Leaving us too early, no one could resent this more than his daughter who was two years old at the time of the accident. Michelle Williams and Ledger were not together anymore but shared co-parenting duties. After Ledger's death, family disputes were unveiled. Ledger signed a will in 2003 leaving his estate to his parents and sisters, but at the time his daughter Matlida was not yet born. There was speculation whether Michelle Williams would file a claim but it did not go further. Ledger's family gifted the entire estate to Matilda inheriting the total sum of 16.3 million.
Ledger's sister, Kate, has declared she still feels connected to her brother through Matilda because she is the same image of him. "When Heath was around, she looked so much like him, we used to say, 'It's Heath in pigtails.' Now everything she does, the way she rides a skateboard, reminds me of Heath. For the first five years every time I saw her, I'd be in tears, but now I can be happy and feel her daddy's energy through her."
And there is more in that, according to a report in New Idea, Matilda is following her dad's steps with one of his obsessions. “Heath was obsessed with chess, and now Matilda is getting quite good at it,” says the source “Matilda has the skills to become a Grandmaster. Michelle [Williams, her mum] thinks this is a great thing and will prevent her from getting up to no good. She even has her dad’s old chessboard!” With “up to no good” they must be referring to those angsty teenage years every single one goes through but apparently, Michelle has declared she wakes up morning “and I wait to see if the transformation has happened and if it’s turned into the next level I keep hearing about, but we’re not there yet.”
As for Matilda's mom, the American actress Michelle Williams has declared she always says to Matilda "Your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes." And quoting Heath Ledger here, it seems Williams is the "perfect mom." Williams is now married to Hamilton director Thomas Kail.
