It might sound weird that a young English singer is somehow related to a late Mexican singer and legend, over the years it has been speculated all over the internet that one inspired the other in more than one way.
First things first. You must already know who Harry Styles is, right? Former member of One Direction, has appeared in some movies like 'Dunkirk,' earned a Grammy, and apparently, has the greatest relationship with his audience on concerts (He jokes around, has given romantic advice, and even cried when he helped to reveal a baby's gender)
On the opposite side, Juan Gabriel whose real name was Alberto Aguilera, and the fans nicknamed him Juanga or 'El Divo De Juarez' is considered one of the best composers in Mexico. If we mention all of his Awards we will never end this, but let us tell you that despite he died back in 2016, he is considered a pop icon thanks to his music and, believe it or not, because of her flamboyant style.
Suits full of sequins and extravagant designs, Juanga was even considered the Mexican Elton John. At the beginning of his musical career, everyone noticed the outfits, but as time passed and it was more than obvious that his talent overshadowed everything else, people who were against him because of his subtle queerness, stopped caring about it and realized that the man was in fact, a living legend on stage.
Now, taking this into consideration let's put Harry Styles on the scene because, as we previously mentioned, Juan Gabriel died back in 2016 (it was considered a national tragedy) but nowadays, people are noticing that over the years, Harry has been dressing almost identical to the Mexican singer. While he has not declared if he knew or liked the other singer, the similarities just can be denied.
“I love the clothes,” Styles told some time ago to Dazed and Confused. “That helps a lot. Just going on stage in a nuts suit with a bunch of sequins makes you feel good, and then you want to play.”
Beyond the obvious fashion style, we really need to mention that there are even similarities when talking about themselves. Harry Styles was being interviewed by The Sun as asked about his sexuality, but the 'Watermelon Sugar' decided that he did not want to label himself. “No, I’ve never felt the need to really. No… I don’t feel like it’s something I’ve ever felt like I have to explain about myself,” he told.
If you compare this to one of the most iconic quotes said by Juan Gabriel you can sense the similarities. The 'Querida' singer was asked decades ago if he was gay or not. Now, keep in mind that back in the 80s and 90s it was still taboo. What did Juanga say? 'Lo que se ve no se pregunta.' (translated this means something like “You don't ask what you can see')
Now, if you don't believe any of this you just can check a video that has always been around on Twitter filmed during the 'Harry Styles Live on Tour' in Mexico City where, before the show started, one of the most representative songs of Juan Gabriel was played. Coincidence? No one thinks so.
