Real no fake. As unbelievable as it sounds, Winona Ryder is married to Keanu Reeves. The American actress has revealed several times that the actor, with whom she has a long friendship, is married to her and even called him 'husband.' In fact, making some calculations they both will be soon having a 30th anniversary but let's start from the beginning.

Keanu Reeves is happily with Alexandra Grant. Whether they are secretly married or not (blame the rumors) both artists are really private about their romance and the only thing we know is that they are still together. On the other hand, Winona Ryder, whose famously infamous relationship with Johnny Depp is way long back in the past, has been together since 2011 with fashion designer Scott Mackinlay Hahn. The incredible part here is that despite they were never in a relationship, Keanu and Winona are married.

The story goes as follows. Back in 1992, both stars met in Dracula where Francis Ford Coppola was the director. Winona played Nina, the beloved bride to be of the terrible vampire Dracula (portrayed by Gary Oldman) and Keanu was the one to portray Jonathan Harker, Nina´s fiancé. At some point in the movie, Reeves and Ryder's characters marry and that's when the story unfolds.

"We actually got married in 'Dracula,'" Winona Ryder told Entertainment Weekly. "No, I swear to god I think we're married in real life. In that scene, Francis used a real Romanian priest," she said. "We shot the master and he did the whole thing. So I think we're married."

Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder have starred together in other films apart from Dracula. In 2006 they were together in A Scanner Darkly, in 2009 in The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, and in 2018 they reunited again as a couple in the rom-com Destination Wedding. While promoting this last film, that's when all these facts saw the light. Sadly for Winona, Keanu did not seem to remember such a unique occasion. “Don’t you remember that? It was Valentine’s Day,” she replied, before he eventually conceded, “Oh my gosh, we’re married.”

Despite Keanu broke her heart by not remembering the ceremony, he has declared that Winona is a lovely person and a talented actress. “I think we make a good couple, and I liked that it’s a two-hander. To them, nobody else matters anyway, right? We did something like five eight-minute scenes, which you don’t often get a chance to do in films.” And even with Keanu's good intentions Winona has spoken and joked about never granting the divorce to him “I'm like, you are mine forever. I won't threaten him with divorce because I'm scared he'll take it. He is one of my favorite humans. I love him so much."

In fact, Coppola declared to The Guardian that after shooting a stylized version of the ceremony he thought that having a wedding ceremony in the religion of that country (Greek Orthodox Christianity) would be beautiful so he decided to call a real priest, "This is pretty authentic and, I think, very beautiful because we actually did the ceremony and had the priest do the ceremony,”

Later, in another interview where Keanu Reeves appeared, the actor revealed that from time to time he receives text messages from Ryder calling him husband, and honestly, given the chance, who wouldn't? “Once in a while, I will get a text, 'Hello, husband.' I didn't really believe her, and then Francis Ford Coppola, the director of Dracula, contacted Winona and said publicly that, yeah, that really happened, the priest did a full ceremony, and Winona and I got married," the actor said.

Moving to November 2021, Keanu Reeves has finally admitted that he is married to Winona Ryder. During an extensive interview with Esquire, the actor said that they did a whole take of a marriage ceremony with a real priest, confirming what Winona said in previous interviews.

"Winona says we are, Coppola says we are, so I guess we are married under the eyes of God," Keanu said to Esquire while giving a sweet smile to the camera.
