And once again, we have news about Britney Spears and the conservatorship she has been under since her dad filed for it and now it has been reported that Jamie Spears, father of the pop star, claimed the American singer suffers from dementia.
According to a new report, while filing paperwork to control all her finances and some personal decisions on her persona, he detailed how her daughter suffered from dementia and was the main reason as to why she was incapacitated to control her life. All of this can be watched in the upcoming BBC documentary 'The Battle for Britney.'
Conservatorships are typically employed for people who are deemed unable to make key decisions for themselves, but in fact, Britney Spears never stopped working, having for example her multi-year shows in Las Vegas, and apparently, Britney's father claimed she was unable to control herself. According to the paperwork shown in the documentary. Jamie Spears marked a box stating “dementia placement or treatment” as a reason for the conservatorship over his daughter’s estate back in 2008 when he started all the legal process. “There’s only two options with that. Britney might have dementia,” Journalist Mobeen Azhar says in the doc. Now I’m not a doctor but if that’s the case, then the world isn’t aware of that. But the other option is actually more sinister,” Azhar adds. “That’s the idea that she doesn’t have dementia but the conservatorship team have suggested that she has because they want to push the conservatorship through. And if that’s the case, then that’s terrifying.”
Britney Spears and Jamie Spears have been in this legal drama for a long time now since she wants his father out of the conservatorship. In fact, more recently the singer asked for a hearing where she wants to address the court directly. In the court filing, we could read that "Britney is strongly opposed to her father continuing as sole conservator of her estate. Rather, without in any way waiving her right to seek termination of this conservatorship in the future, she strongly prefers to have a qualified corporate fiduciary appointed to serve in this role.” In the same filing, Britney said she also addressed that she wants to “pursue opportunities related to professional commitments and activities including but not limited to performing, recording, videos, tours, TV shows, and other similar activities as long as they are approved by the conservator of the person and [her] medical team".
Anyway, ironically Jamie Spears has declared that all he has done over the years has been for Britney's safety and benefit. "Jamie is not suggesting that he is the perfect dad or that he would receive any 'Father of the Year' award. Like any parent, he doesn't always see eye-to-eye on what Britney may want. But Jamie believes every single decision he has made has been in her best interest," Jamie Spears' lawyer said.
